Skins - Location scouting
Our first task for Pre-production was to find locations around our college which were similar to the locations used in the first episode of Skins. We needed to find locations which could have been shot in Sailsbury rather than the actual film locations in Bristol.
The first location we searched for needed to contain a lot of average houses in a built up area, this would match the location used in one of the opening scenes of Skins. There were many locations around Sailsbury which we felt would have been suitable locations for this scene.
The next location we looked for would have to be a small cafe, as Sailsbury has many small cafes or coffee shops we had multiple options. We decided that Costa maybe a better option as it would be good advertisement and a place which would appeal and be relatable to the set target audience.
Our next location we needed to find would be a Church or Cathedral with a large areas of grass surrounding it. We were lucky as Sailsbury has Sailsbury Cathedral which is surrounded by grass making a perfect location, very similar to the scene used in Skins.
Finding a location to use for the Hospital scene seemed like it would be a difficult task, However luckily there was a clinic not too far from which would make an ideal location.
The last main location we tried to find was the river-side which would be used towards the end of the episode. Once we'd found the location that would be most suitable we knew that if we were to film here there would be problems, one was the fact there was railing. This would have prevented us from getting the shot of the car falling into the river, another problem would have been that the river would have been shallow to create the suspense of the characters drowning. However it was the most suitable location we could find.
